Hey, I’m Amy and I’m also a ChicMechanic. In all honesty I never even touched a tool until I was in my 30’s, but the first time I did it was a game changer.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, confused, or dismissed when trying to learn basic auto repair, you’re in the right place. I know exactly how you feel, because that was me not too long ago.
My automotive journey didn’t start in a classroom, it started in a garage with my new boyfriend and his 1998 Chevy Lumina that needed new head gaskets. He was learning everything you could on changing head gaskets, and I jumped in to help. That grueling, hands-on experience became my training ground. I learned that you don’t need formal certifications to successfully do what many would say are impossible to do, just curiosity, good guidance, and the determination to get the job done.
Fast forward to today, and we have tackled head gaskets, changing ball joints, a control arm, a starter, and I can’t forget the surprising role ground wires play in automobiles, every repair that has came our way we have taken head on so now, I want to show you exactly how we do it—step by step, without the intimidation or jargon.

Why did I create this site?
When we replaced that head gasket, I had zero mechanical knowledge. That experience taught me two things:
1. Anyone can learn to fix their own car.
2. The best teachers are often those who just learned it themselves.
I built ChicMechanic to provide the straightforward, encouraging resources and somewhere you can ask any question and get a response (even if I don’t know I’ll help you figure it out)
My mission is simple: to prove that anyone—regardless of background, age, or experience—can learn to fix, maintain, and understand their own vehicle.
